The CBI has intensified its activities over the past few days regarding the investigation into the rape and murder of the RG Kar doctor on 9 August, 2024. On Wednesday, the CBI sleuths visited the cremation ground in Panihati.
Subsequently, investigating officers summoned Ghosh, the former MLA of the area, for questioning.
Speaking on the matter, the former MLA’s son, Tirthankar Ghosh, said: “The CBI called him over the phone and asked him to meet them. We certainly want to cooperate with the investigation, that is why my father has gone there.”
The victim’s family has raised questions about the RG Kar investigation. Allegations have surfaced regarding the destruction of evidence, negligence, and attempts to conceal the actual facts. The family alleges that obstacles were placed in the way of a second post-mortem examination of the victim’s body. They also claim that the body was cremated hastily without handing over the relevant documents to the family.
Sources indicate that investigators went there to collect detailed information about the events that transpired after the deceased doctor’s body was brought to the cremation ground and the manner in which the cremation was conducted.
It is worth noting that earlier this month, the lawyer representing the victim’s family had argued against Ghosh in the Sealdah Court. The lawyer demanded that three individuals ~ Ghiosh, neighbour Sanjib Mukhopadhyay, and Somnath Dey ~ be brought under the scope of the investigation. Questions were also raised in court regarding how the CBI could keep them outside the investigation’s ambit without conducting any inquiry. At that time, the CBI had informed the court that there was no written complaint against these three individuals.
